From Brian Hubbard, Head of Reference:
Ely Library has a new home page at http://www.lib.wsc.ma.edu/index.html. During the past three months, librarians sifted through numerous external sites and multiple revisions of the new home page to find the right formula for achieving our goal: to simplify access to our resources and services by reorganizing the page into easily recognizable categories with drop-down menus plus new features highlighting News and Outreach activities. Patrick Hartsfield's patience and expertise have been critical to our success. The new home page is considered a work-in-progress and you can help us meet your needs by sending any comments or suggestions for consideration in our next revision to Patrick Hartsfield at: jhartsfield @ wsc.ma.edu.
In order to ease the transition to our new home page, we will maintain the previous home page until January 2010--available at http://www.lib.wsc.ma.edu/classic.html or from the new Library Home Page, click on Classic Library Home Page under Services.

We can introduce your students to the tools, resources, and research skills necessary to complete course assignments as well as show them the key titles and resources in a particular field. We also educate students on critical thinking strategies for identifying, retrieving, and utilizing the best information available (such as scholarly sources and reliable websites).

From Karen Canary, Ely Library Assistant in the Archives:
I attended the American Library Association Annual Conference this year. The conference was held in Chicago from July 10 to July 14. The American Library Association offers each of the attendees a chance to make a difference in the city that the conference is held each year. I have had the privilege to work in New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and this year Chicago.
I worked at the George B. McClelland Elementary School in Chicago on Friday, July 10. This school received some book donations from an elementary school that had closed. The school received approximately 50 – 75 boxes full of children’s books for their collection. Our task was to organize the books and shelve them.
The picture above is the entire group of librarians who helped on July 10 in the city of Chicago.
The photograph appeared in this issue of ALA Cognotes.
