ALA--Libraries Build Communities

on Friday, August 7, 2009

From Karen Canary, Ely Library Assistant in the Archives:

I attended the American Library Association Annual Conference this year. The conference was held in Chicago from July 10 to July 14. The American Library Association offers each of the attendees a chance to make a difference in the city that the conference is held each year. I have had the privilege to work in New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and this year Chicago.

I worked at the George B. McClelland Elementary School in Chicago on Friday, July 10. This school received some book donations from an elementary school that had closed. The school received approximately 50 – 75 boxes full of children’s books for their collection. Our task was to organize the books and shelve them.

The photograph appeared in this issue of ALA Cognotes.
